Teacher FAQs

What is the pay?
Please see the compensation plan that was adopted by the COL Board of Directors on May 07, 2004

How many students will I have?
COL is anticipating a class size between 12 and 20 students.

Do I write the course or is it already out there?
Teachers are the primary developers for new courses. COL will provide assistance in the form of technical and course design consultants and course evaluators.

Who is COL?
This can be found on the COL home page at www.col.k12.co.us. Click on About Us.

Are my teaching expenses covered (computer, Internet access, e-mail account, etc....)?
No. COL expects teachers to cover these costs themselves, however, we can provide you with an email account.

How will I be trained?
COL will offer a variety of training opportunities including face-to-face and Web-based activities.

What are the expectations of me as a teacher?
At a minimum, COL teachers are expected to:

  • Answer student e-mail and inquiries within 24 hours during the school week and by Monday morning for Friday inquiries
  • Send out grade reports every 3-4 weeks
  • Maintain contact with the student and the student's adult sponsor
  • Have their own, reliable Internet access and “modern” computer
  • Be very prompt on grading and turn around time to students.
  • Respond to COL staff e-mails and other contacts in a timely manner
  • Be flexible regarding student needs as we often deal with students who have been unsuccessful in the regular classroom

Who can I contact for more information?
You can e-mail the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
